The Quran about signs 4

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.

Signs in Muhammad’s story

Muhammad’s status of the messenger defined the events that were happening with him as signs of God.

Exalted is He who took His servant by night from forbidden for battles place for earthly worship to distant place of earthly worship, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs! Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing! (17:1)

He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord! (53:18)

Muhammad’s mission was to deliver to the people the revelations of the Lord inspired to him, about which Abraham asked the Creator.

Our Lord! Send to them a messenger from themselves who will recite to them Your signs and teach them the Prescription and judgement and purify them. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise!” (2:129)

The revelation of God was expressed in the sending down of the Prescription to Muhammad, consisting of signs which the messenger cited as an argument to his people.

And when Our signs are recited to them as clear evidences, those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, “Bring us a Literature (Quran) other than this or change it.”

Reply, “It is not for me to change it on my own accord! I only follow what is suggested to me. Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous day!” (10:15)

And when Our signs are recited to them as clear evidences, those who closed themselves say to those who believe, “Which of two parties is best in position and best in association? (19:73)

And when Our signs are recited to them as clear evidences, you recognize in the faces of those who closed themselves denial. They are ready to attack those who recite to them Our signs.

Say, “Then shall I inform of worst of that for you? – the fire! God has promised it to those who closed themselves! And wretched is such return!” (22:72)

And when Our signs are recited to them as clear evidences, they say, “This is not but a man who wishes to avert you from that which your fathers were worshipping!”

And they said, “This is not except a lie invented!”

And those who closed themselves from the truth, say, when it has come to them, “This is not but obvious magic!” (34:43)

And when Our signs are recited to them as clear evidences, their argument is only that they say, “Bring our forefathers, if you should be truthful!” (45:25)

And when Our signs are recited to them as clear evidences, those who closed themselves from the truth, say, when it has come to them, “This is obvious magic!” (46:7)

It is He who has sent to the untutored ones the messenger from themselves. Reciting to them His signs and purifying them and teaching them the Prescription and judgement – although they were before in clear error. (62:2)

God has sent down to you the messenger with the reminder, reciting to you clarified signs of God… (65:11)

The activity of the messenger was based on argumentation in polemics, or in exhortation, by providing various kinds of signs.

These are the signs of God which We recite to you in truth.

And indeed, you are from among the messengers. (2:252)

We recite to you of signs and the precise reminder. (3:58)

These are the signs of God. We recite them to you in truth. God wants no obscurity to the people! (3:108)

In the heterogeneous believing environment of Muhammad’s contemporaries, there certainly were adequately perceiving people who recognized the truth of the Quran’s precepts.

They are not the same. Among the holders of the Prescription is a headship standing firm, reciting the signs of God during periods of the night and prostrating. (3:113)

Certainly did God confer favor upon the believers when He sent among them a messenger from themselves, reciting to them His signs and purifying them and teaching them the Prescription and judgement, although they had been before in manifest error. (3:164)

The believers are only those who, when God is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His signs are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely. (8:2)

Those were the ones upon whom God bestowed favor from among the prophets of the descendants of Adam. Of those We carried with Nuh (Noah). Of  the descendants of Ibrahim (Abraham) and Israel. Of those whom We guided and chose. When the verses of the Merciful were recited to them, they fell in prostration and weeping! (19:58)

And remember what is recited in your houses of the signs of God and judgment. Indeed, God is ever Subtle and Acquainted. (33:34)

Indeed, within the heavens and earth are signs for the believers! And in the creation of yourselves and what He disperses of moving creatures are signs for people who are certain. And in the alternation of night and day and in what God sends down from the sky of provision and gives life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness and in directing of the winds are signs for a people who reason.

These are the signs of God which We recite to you in truth. Then in what story after God and His signs will they believe? (45:2-6)

However, there were those who rejected the God-sent Prescription.

And how could you close yourselves while to you are being recited the signs of God and among you is His messenger? And whoever holds firmly to God has been guided to a straight path! (3:101)

And recite to them, the news of him to whom we gave Our signs, but he detached himself from them. He followed the disobedient and became of the lost. (7:175)

And when Our signs are recited to them, they say, “We have heard. If we willed, we could say the same. This is not but legends of the former nations!” (8:31)

And when Our signs are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly as if he had not heard them, as if there was in his ears deafness. So give him tidings of a painful punishment! (31:7)

Who hears the signs of God recited to him, then persists arrogantly as if he had not heard them. So give him tidings of a painful punishment! And when he learns something of Our signs he turns it into a jest. For such there is a shameful punishment! (45:8-9)

When Our signs are recited to him, he says, “Ancient legends!” (68:15)

Who, when Our signs are recited to him, he says: “Legends of the Ancients!” (83:13)

Those who rejected the Signs of the Creator took advantage of the right of free choice, but were informed of the consequences, and on the Day of Judgment the fate of such people will be rather sad.

My signs had already been recited to you, but you were turning back on your heels (23:66)

They will be asked “Were not My signs recited to you and you used to deny them?” (23:105)

And those who closed themselves will be driven to Hell as a crowd until, when they reach it, its gates are opened.

Its keepers will say, “Did there not come to you messengers from yourselves, reciting to you the signs of your Lord and warning you of the meeting of this day of yours?”

They will say, “Yes!”.

But the word of punishment has come into effect upon the closed ones! (39:71)

But as for those who closed themselves, it will be said to them, “Were not My signs recited to you? But you were arrogant and became a nation of criminals! (45:31)

The sending of the Prescription by the signs signified the attainment of a high degree of scholarship.

And thus We have given the signs so they will say, “You have studied,” and so We may make the Quran clear for a people who know! (6:105)
