The Quran about signs 2

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.

Transcendence of signs

The supernatural facts that people face become significant events for them. A vivid example of such an event is the following incident:

Or you have not thought of the similar one who passed by a township which had fallen into ruin. He said, “How will God bring this to life after its death?” So God caused him to die for a hundred years; then He revived him. He said, “How long have you remained?”

The man said, “I have remained a day or part of a day!”

He said, “Rather, you have remained one hundred years. Look at your food and your drink; it has not changed with time. Look at your donkey. And look at the bones – how We raise them and then We cover them with flesh. We will make you a sign for the people!” And when it became clear to him, he said, “I know that God is over all things competent!” (2:259)

What has happened is aimed to be edification to all people that they would reflect on the meaning of their being and have an idea of the upcoming events.

O children of Adam! We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal what is blamed and as adornment, but the clothing of prudence – that is best. That is from the signs of God that perhaps they will remember! (7:26)

And We have certainly sent down to you distinct signs and examples from those who passed on before you and an admonition for those who are circumspect! (24:34)

And We have already destroyed what surrounds you of cities, and We have diversified the signs that perhaps they might return! (46:27)

Signs, suggesting a thought about the transcendental, are spread in numerous examples of the environment.

It is He who shows you His signs and sends down to you from the sky, provision. But none will remember except those who pray for help! (40:13)

And He shows you His signs. So which of the signs of God do you deny? (40:81)

However, a skeptical attitude toward the truth does not allow obscurantists to understand the importance of the proposed signs.

Man was created of haste. I will show you My signs, so do not impatiently urge Me! (21:37)

Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them does not believe! (26:103)

Only people seeking to think independently can see the Divine Signs

Eat and pasture your livestock. Indeed, in that are signs for those of intelligence! (20:54)

Then, has it not become clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them as they walk among their dwellings? Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence! (20:128)

God takes a personality at the time of its death, and the one that do not die during sleep. Then He keeps those for which He has decreed death and releases the others for a specified term. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought! (39:42)

Contemplation of the universe, understanding of the signs leads to confidence in faith in the Creator of all things.

Do they not see that God extends provision for whom He wills and restricts? Indeed, in that are signs for a people who believe! (30:37)

Do you not see that ships sail through the sea by the favor of God that He may show you of His signs? Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful! (31:31)

Then, do they not look at what is before them and what is behind them of the heaven and earth? If We should will, We could cause the earth to swallow them or let fall upon them fragments from the sky! Indeed in that is a sign for every repentant servant! (34:9)

Do they not know that God extends provision for whom He wills and restricts? Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe! (39:52)

And on the earth are signs for the certain ones and in yourselves, then will you not see? (51:20-21)

Acquiring faith in the Prescription, believers are given signs in the events that are taking place.

Already there has been for you a sign in the two armies which met – one fighting in the way of God and another of closed nature. The closed ones saw them twice their number by eyesight. But God supports with His victory whom He wills. Indeed in that is edification for those of vision! (3:13)

God has promised you much booty that you will take and has hastened for you this. Withheld the hands of people from you – that it may be a sign for the believers and to guide you to a straight path! (48:20)

And among other things, for leadership, historical signs also have a place to be.

There are signs, shown for people – the standing place of Ibrahim (Abraham). And whoever enters it shall be safe. Before God the people have an obligation of pilgrimage to the house – for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever closes himself – then indeed, God is free from need of the people. (3:97)
