The Quran about promise

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.

Communication of people includes such a thing as a promise. In this case, the promise is not limited only by the relationships of people, but is also used in relation to God. In the Quran, the promise is denoted by the term, the root of which is the word “ua,dun”.

Human’s promise

Their hearts followed the venality until the day they will meet Him, with that they failed in what they promised Him and with what they considered to be a lie. (9:77)

And the asking of forgiveness of Abraham for his father was only because of a promise he had made to him. But when it became apparent to Abraham that his father was an enemy to God, he disassociated himself from him. Indeed was Abraham compassionate and forbearing. (9:114)

And mention in the Prescription, Ishmael. Indeed, he was true to his promise, and he was a sent prophet. (19:54)

Say, “Have you considered your partners whom you invoke besides God? Show me what they have created from the earth? Or do they have partnership in the heavens? Or have We given them a Prescription so it became clear for them therefrom? Indeed, the obscurantists do not promise each other except self-delusion.” (35:40)

Attitude to the promise

They said, “When we have died and become dust with bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? We and our fathers have been promised this earlier. Indeed, this is not but legends of the ancients!” (23:82-83)

And those who closed themselves say, “When we have become dust, we and our fathers will indeed be brought out? We and our fathers have been promised this earlier. This is not but ancient legends!” (27:67-68)

And they say, “When is this promise fulfilled, if you are truthful?” (27:71)

Venal, those in whose hearts is disease said, “What God and His messenger promised to us is only a deceit,” (33:12)

And they say, “When is this promise fulfilled, if you are truthful?” (34:29)

And when it was said, ‘Indeed, the hour promised by God is truth in which there is no doubt!’ you replied, ‘We know not what is the hour. We assume only assumptions! We are not convinced!” (45:32)

Promise of the disobedient

He promises them and arouses desire in them. But disobedient does not promise them except delusion! (4:120)

Disobedient (shaitan) said when the matter has been decided, “Indeed, God had promised you the promise of truth. And I promised you, but I deceived you. But I had no authority over you except that I called you, and you responded to me! So do not blame me, but blame yourselves! I do not call you for help, and you do not call for my help either! Indeed, I am closed from your association of me with God before!” Indeed, for the obscurantists is a painful punishment! (14:22)

Incite whoever you can among them with your voice! Assault them with your horses and foot soldiers! Become a partner in their wealth and their children! Promise them!” Indeed, a promise of the disobedient is deceitful! (17:64)

God’s promise

Our Lord! Grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the day of standing before You. Indeed, You do not fail in promise!” (3:194)

And the companions of the garden called out to the companions of the fire, “We have already found what our Lord promised us to be true. Have you found what your Lord promised to be true?”

They replied, “Yes.”

Then an announcer will announce among them, “The curse of God is upon the obscurantists, who reject the way of God and seek to cause crookedness and they closed themselves from the hereafter. (7:44-45)

Indeed, God has purchased from the believers their lives and their wealth! For that they will have the garden! They fight in the way of God, they kill and are killed by the true promise from Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Quran. And who is truer to his obligation than God? So rejoice in your deal which you have concluded with Him! This is a great attainment! (9:111)

Unquestionably, to God belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth! Unquestionably, the promise of God is truth, but most of them do not know! (10:55)

But they injured her, so he said, “Enjoy your homes for three days! That is not a false promise!” (11:65)

…the disaster will not cease to strike those who closed themselves, for what they have done, or it will cease near their home, until there comes the promise of God. Indeed, God does not change a certain time. (13:31)

So never think that God will fail in His promise to His messengers! Indeed, God is Exalted in Might, owner of retribution. (14:47)

They swore by God with the strongest oath: “God will not resurrect the one who dies!” By the true promise from Him, He will, but most of the people do not know. (16:38)

And similarly, We made known about them that they would know that the promise of God is truth, and there is no doubt in the hour.

When they disputed among themselves about their affair and said, “Construct over them a structure. Their Lord is most knowing about them!”

Said those who prevailed in it, “We will surely arrange a place for earthly worship over them!” (18:21)

He said, “This is a mercy from my Lord! And when the promise of my Lord comes, He will destroy it, and the promise of my Lord will become true!” (18:98)

We sent only men to whom We inspired. So ask the holders of the reminder if you do not know! And We did not make them as bodies not eating food, nor were they immortal. Then We fulfilled for them the promise, and We saved them and whom We willed and destroyed the transgressors! (21:7-9)

At that day We will fold the sky like the scribe folds the records. As We began the first creation, We will repeat it, by Our promise! Indeed, We are doers! (21:104)

And they urge you to hasten the punishment, but God will never fail in His promise. And indeed, a day of your Lord is like a thousand years of those which you count! (22:47)

And when Our signs are recited to them as clear evidences, you recognize in the faces of those who closed themselves denial. They are ready to attack those who recite to them Our signs.

Say, “Then shall I inform of worst of that for you? – the fire! God has promised it to those who closed themselves! And wretched is such return!” (22:72)

For them therein is whatever they wish! Their staying was a responsible promise of your Lord! (25:16)

So We brought him back to his mother to calm down her eyes, so that she would not grieve and that she would know that the promise of God is true! But most of the people do not know! (28:13)

Then is he whom We have promised a good promise which he will obtain like he for whom We provided enjoyment of worldly life, and then he is, on the day of standing before God, among those presented? (28:61)

…God does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know. (30:6)

So be patient. Indeed, the promise of God is truth. And do not let those who have no confidence neglect you! (30:60)

…Indeed, the promise of God is truth!

So do not let the worldly life delude you! Nor let the temper incite you concerning God! (31:33)

O mankind, indeed the promise of God is truth! So do not let the worldly life delude you! Nor let the deceiver deceive you about God! (35:5)

And they will say, “Praise to God, who has fulfilled for us His promise and made us inherit the earth! We will settle in the garden wherever we will!” And excellent is the reward of doers. (39:74)

Our Lord! Admit them to the gardens of Adn (Eden) which You have promised them and whoever corrected himself among their parents, their spouses and their offspring! Indeed, it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. (40:8)

Then the sky will break apart and His promise will be fulfilled! (73:18)
