Muhammad’s speech in the Quran. Part 5
In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful
Polemics with closed from the signs of God
Striving of the people rejecting the message offered by God in order to defend their own positions has led to the request to Muhammad to show any miracle-signs.
And they say, “Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?”
Say, “Indeed, God is Able to send down a sign, but most of them do not know!” (6:37)
According to them, the messenger should be free to demonstrate supernatural abilities. But the absence of such demonstration of the miracle on demand used to “rebuke” messenger’s unsoundness.
And when you do not bring them a sign, they say, “Why have you not selected it?”
Say, “I only follow what is suggested to me from my Lord. This is enlightenment from your Lord and guidance and mercy for a people who believe!” (7:203)
Such an approach in relation to Muhammad was dictated by the rejection of divine information by any means.
And they say, “Why is a sign not sent down to him from his Lord?”
So say, “The hidden is only for God [to administer], so wait; indeed, I am with you among those who wait!”
When We give the people a taste of mercy after harm has touched them, at once they trick against Our signs.
Say, “God is swifter in trickery.” Indeed, Our messengers record that which you trick (10:20-21)
Request of miracle demonstration clearly reflected the “blind” defence of their system of values, keeping them in the “darkness” of ignorance.
And those who closed themselves say, “Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?”
Say, “Indeed, God leaves astray whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever prays for forgiveness!” (13:27)
The messenger of the Lord never positioned himself as some “superman”, and once again emphasized his true mission and position.
But they say, “Why are not signs sent down to him from his Lord?”
Say, “The signs are only with God, and I am only a clear warner.” (29:50)
Repeated discussion exposed the hypocrisy and contradiction in the arguments of the opponents of Muhammad.
And they say, “We will not believe you until you break open for us from the ground a spring. Or [until] you have a garden of palm trees and grapes and make rivers gush forth within them in force or you make the heaven fall upon us in fragments as you have claimed or you bring God and the maintainers before [us] or you have a house of gold or you ascend into the sky. And we will not believe in your ascension until you bring down to us a book we may read!”
Say, “Exalted is my Lord! Was I ever but a human messenger?” (17:90-93)
All the arguments of the enemy cannot stand the clear evidence from the Quran. This situation prompted the request for the replacement of the Prescription on another option.
And when Our signs are recited to them as clear evidences, those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, “Bring us a Literature (Quran) other than this or change it.”
Say, “It is not for me to change it on my own accord. I only follow what is suggested to me. Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous day!”
Say, “If God had willed, I would not have recited it to you, nor would He have made it known to you, for I had remained among you a lifetime before it. Then will you not reason?” (10:15-16)
Namely the Quranic prescriptions, rather than personal reflections of the messenger confused the people who reject the signs of the Creator. After all, Muhammad’s opponents’ worldview was based on pantheism.
Say, “Do you indeed close yourselves from Him who created the earth in two days and attribute to Him equals? That is the Lord of the worlds.” (41:9)
They justified the futility of their own foundations by denying the fundamental laws of the Creator.
But those who closed themselves say, “The hour will not come to us.”
Say, “Yes, by my Lord, the Knower of the hidden, it will surely come to you..” Not absent from Him is an atom’s weight within the heavens or within the earth or [what is] smaller than that or greater, except that it is in a clear Prescription. (34:3)
After all, the prospect of the resurrection and the report for their livelihoods instilled a fear that was expressed in the indiscriminate rejection of the forthcoming fact.
Those who closed themselves have claimed that they will never be resurrected.
Say, “Yes, by my Lord, you will surely be resurrected; then you will surely be informed of what you did. And that, for God, is easy!” (64:7)
This fear was not baseless. Those who deny the signs of the Almighty have been clearly warned about the end of their lives.
Say to those who closed themselves, “You will be overcome and gathered together to Hell, and wretched is the resting place!”(3:12)
Fear of such prospects required evidence of this version of the events from higher power.
Do you wait for anything except that the maintainers should come to you or your Lord should come or that there come some of the signs of your Lord? The day that some of the signs of your Lord will come no personality will benefit from its faith as long as it had not believed before or had earned through its faith some good.
Say, “Wait and we will wait.” (6:158)
Inconsistency of their own views against the clear argumentation of the Prescription caused hatred of the Quran in front of the declaration of the provisions of it.
And when Our signs are recited to them as clear evidences, you recognize in the faces of those who closed themselves denial. They are ready to attack those who recite to them Our signs.
Say, “Then shall I inform of worst of that for you? – the fire! God has promised it to those who closed themselves! And wretched is such return!” (22:72)
The use of extracts of the Quran as an argument in our time receives an inappropriate response of hatred, examples of which are seen even among the Muslims nowadays.
The accusation of lie of the revealed Prescription, interfering the proper worldview is the direct cause for the punishment.
Say, “What would my Lord care for you if not for your supplication?” For you have denied, so the consequence is bound to come! (25:77)
Say, “Sufficient is God between me and you as Witness. He knows what is in the heavens and earth. And they who have believed in vainness and closed themselves from God – it is those who are the losers.” (29:52)
The subconscious belief in the inevitability of the punishment has provoked questions about the time when this event will occur.
Say, “It is He who has produced you and made for you hearing and vision and hearts; little are you grateful!”
Say, “It is He who has multiplied you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered!”
And they say, “When is this promise, if you should be truthful?”
Say, “The knowledge is only with God, and I am only a clear warner.”
But when they see it approaching, the faces of those who closed themselves will be distressed, and it will be said, “This is that for which you used to call.”
Say, “Have you considered: whether God should cause my death and those with me or have mercy upon us, who can protect the closed ones from a painful punishment?”(67:23-28)
Muhammad’s mission was only to report God’s warnings to the people, without an imposing of the provisions of the Prescription. Therefore, the rejection of the Creator’s prescriptions led only to the dissociation from the activities of each other.
And if they deny you, then say, “For me are my deeds, and for you are your deeds. You are disassociated from what I do, and I am disassociated from what you do.” (10:41)
And if they disobey you, then say, “Indeed, I am disassociated from what you are doing!” (26:216)
Otherwise, it could not be. A basis of ideology of each person provides the meaning of human activity. The spiritual component determines the direction vector of man’s serving, which can be different.
Say, “O those who closed themselves!
I do not serve what you serve!
Nor are you servants of what I serve!
Nor will I be a servant of what you serve!
Nor will you be servants of what I serve!
For you is your duty, and for me is my duty!” (109:1-6)
The refusal of the surrounding people to be supervised by the Supreme’s guidance should not lead to discouragement. It is a free choice of everyone, the result of which will be certainly summed up on the Day of Debt.
And if they dispute with you, then say, “God is most knowing of what you do. God will judge between you on the day of standing before Him concerning that over which you used to differ!” (22:68-69)
Say, “He is the Gracious; we have believed Him, and upon Him we have relied. And you will [come to] know who it is that is in clear error!”
Say, “Have you considered: if your water was to become sunken [into the earth], then who could bring you flowing water?” (67:29-30)
Everyone is free to treat God’s Word as he or she wish. But the main thing is that everybody should know about the warnings of the Creator, in particular those opposing the Quran.
