The Quran about those who closed themselves. Part 6

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful

Аttitude

In the light of the gradation of people on believers and the closed ones, the attitude towards them becomes relevant. First of all it is an attitude from the side of God. The Most High rebukes the closed people for their state.

How can you close yourselves from God when you were lifeless and He brought you to life; then He will cause you to die, then He will bring you [back] to life, and then to Him you will be returned. (2:28)

All the excuses of the closed people are not justified.

Nor could he order you to take the maintainers and prophets as lords. Would he order you to close yourselves after you had humbled? (3:80)

How shall God guide a people who closed themselves after their belief and had witnessed that the messenger is true and clear signs had come to them? And God does not guide the obscurantists! (3:86)

Indeed, those who have believed then closed themselves, then believed, then closed themselves, and then increased in closed nature – never will God forgive them, nor will He guide them to a way. (4:137)

Indeed, those who closed themselves and avert from the way of God have certainly gone far astray. Indeed, those who closed themselves and commit wrong – never will God forgive them, nor will He guide them to a path. (4:167-168)

In the relationship between believers and those who closed themselves, the Lord takes the side of those who believe.

Give tidings to the venal ones that there is for them a painful punishment – those who take closed ones as patrons instead of the believers! Do they seek with them honour? But indeed, honour belongs to God entirely!

And it has already come down to you in the Prescription that when you hear the signs of God, with people closed from them and mocking them, so do not sit with them until they switch to another story. Indeed, you would then be like them. Indeed God will gather the venal and closed ones in Hell all together!

Those who wait [and watch] you, then if you gain a victory from God, they say, “Were we not with you?” But if the closed people have a success, they say [to them], “Did we not gain the advantage over you, but we protected you from the believers?” God will judge between [all of] you on the day of standing before God, and never will God give the closed people over the believers a way [to overcome them]! (4:139-141)

Despite the opposition of the closed people, the truth will always prevail.

They want to extinguish the light of God with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, although the closed ones dislike it. (61:8)

However, the Creator is fair to everyone, even to those who closed themselves.

And if it were not that the people would become one community, We would have made for those who closed themselves from the Merciful – for their houses – ceilings and stairways of silver upon which to mount! (43:33)

It is worth pondering for the closed people, because the Creator has indicated His attitude towards them.

God destroys usury and gives increase for charities. And God does not like every closed sinner! (2:276)

Say, “Obey God and the messenger.” But if they turn away – then indeed, God does not like the closed people! (3:32)

Indeed, God defends those who have believed. Indeed, God does not like everyone treacherous and closed. (22:38)

Whoever closes himself – upon him is his closed nature. And whoever corrected himself – they are for themselves preparing, That He may reward those who have believed and corrected themselves out of His bounty. Indeed, He does not like the closed people. (30:44-45)

Inspired by the signs of God, believers, on the basis of the experience of relationships with those who closed themselves, treat them as follows:

God does not charge a personality except [with that within] its capacity.

It will have what it has gained, and it will bear what it has earned.

“Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred.

Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear.

And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us.

You are our patron, so give us victory over the closed people.” (2:286)

And their words were not but that they said, “Our Lord, forgive us our trespasses and the excess [committed] in our affairs and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the closed people.” (3:147)

So they said, “Upon God do we rely. Our Lord, make us not a temptation for the obscurantists and save us by Your mercy from the closed people.” (10:85-86)

Our Lord, make us not temptation for those who closed themselves! Forgive us, our Lord! Indeed, it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise!” (60:5)

The following prescriptions in the Quran can be regarded as a response to the appeal:

Let not believers take the closed ones as patrons rather than believers. And whoever does that has nothing with God, except when taking precaution against them in fear. And God warns you of Himself! And to God is the exodus! (3:28)

They wish you would close yourself as they closed themselves so you would be alike. So do not take from among them patrons until they emigrate for the way of God. But if they turn away, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them, except for those who are related to people with whom you made a covenant or those who come to you restraining from fighting you or fighting their own people. Take not from among them any patron or helper! (4:89)

So when you meet those who closed themselves, strike necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure their bonds, and either [confer] favor afterwards or ransom [them] until the war lays down its burdens. And if God had willed, He could have taken vengeance upon them, but that is to test some of you by means of others. And those who are killed in the way of God – never will He waste their deeds! (47:4)

Muhammad is the Messenger of God. Those with him are forceful against the closed ones, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating, seeking bounty from God and His contentment. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their example in the Torah. And their example in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers – so that God may enrage by them those who closed themselves.

God has promised those who believe and corrected themselves among them forgiveness and a great reward! (48:29)

The result of the relationships between the believers and the closed people will be the events on the Day of Debt:

So Today those who believed are laughing at the closed people, on adorned couches, observing.

Have the closed ones [not] been rewarded for what they used to do? (83:34-36)

Being the same human as us, the messenger was given certain prescriptions regarding his behaviour with those who closed themselves

So do not obey the closed people, and strive against them with a great striving. (25:52)

And you were not expecting that the Prescription would be conveyed to you, but [it is] a mercy from your Lord. So do not be an assistant to the closed people. (28:86)

And whoever has closed himself- let not his closed nature grieve you. To Us is their return, and We will inform them of what they did. Indeed, God is Knowing of that within the thoughts. (31:23)

And do not obey the closed and the venal ones but do not harm them, and rely upon God. And sufficient is God as Disposer of affairs!  (33:48)

O prophet! Strive against the closed and the venal people and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination! (Sahih 66:9)

So be patient for the judgement of your Lord and do not obey from among them a sinner or closed one! (76:24)

Having completed the topic of closed nature, we have a clear idea of this phenomenon. The inquisitive, analytical mind will draw from the signs a lot of important for itself. But the most important thing is that you should not be bone, dogmatic, afraid of any information. It is because of the closed nature, because of the adherence to tradition, that many people could not understand and accept the Light of God.
