The Quran about intimates and patrons
In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful
The entire surrounding universe is permeated with interconnections. Mutuality can be traced in everything: in the structure of matter, nature, society and human relations. This state is associated not only with the material world, but also with the sacred world.
Since ancient times man has felt the transcendental influence “from the outside”, sometimes giving this quality to different characters. It was manifested by giving to their fictional “heroes” some abilities of patronage and closeness to themselves. This error was due to ignorance of the true state of things, for the correction of which God sent down the Scriptures.
In the last revealed Scripture of the Creator – the Quran, the topic of patronage and closeness is described in great detail.
To define this topic in the Quran, the words are used, the root of which is the term “ualiyun” – singular, “auliya,a” – plural. – “to be intimate, to be a patron“.
In the universal concept, the word “intimate” means “one who is bound by close personal fellowship, friendship, love”; And the word “patron” – “the one who protects, is close spiritually, treats with friendship and love.”
I would like to emphasize that the lack of closeness and patronage to each other does not mean hatred and enmity. For example, the state of simple acquaintance and having around other personalities does not imply closeness and patronage. Every day we encounter unfamiliar people without experiencing closeness and patronage, which does not prevent us from living peacefully, without manifesting a negative.
Consider the highest priority in a given topic.
But God is your Patron! (3:150)
But if they turn away – then know that God is your Patron! Excellent is the Patron, and Excellent is the Helper! (8:40)
Say, “Never will we be struck except by what God has decreed for us. He is our patron.” And upon God let the believers rely! (9:51)
He is your Patron!
He is excellent Patron and excellent Helper! (22:78)
And it is He who sends down the rain after they had despaired and spreads His mercy. And He is the Patron, the Praiseworthy! (42:28)
The whole logic of faith in the Lord leads to the most reliable patron of man – the Most High. Unfortunately, people’s actions look like there is no the highest power above and there is a guarantee of protection from someone else. But such a position is erroneous.
Do you not know that to God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth!? You have not besides God any patron or any helper! (2:107)
Indeed, to God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! He gives life and causes death! And you have not besides God any patron or any helper! (9:116)
Indeed, God will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when God intends for a people evil, there is no repelling it! And there is not for them besides Him any patron! (13:11)
Say, “God is most knowing of how long they remained. He has the hidden of the heavens and the earth. How perfectly He hears and sees! They have not besides Him any patron, and He shares not His judgement with anyone!” (18:26)
And you will not cause failure upon the earth or in the heaven. And you have not other than God any patron or any helper! (29:22)
It is God who created the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them in six days, then levelled it for a stay. You have not besides Him any patron or any intercessor. So will you not be reminded? (32:4)
Say, “Who is it that can protect you from God if He intends for you an evil or intends for you a mercy?” And they will not find for themselves besides God any patron or any helper! (33:17)
And you will not cause failure upon the earth. And you have not besides God any patron or helper! (42:31)
In a natural way, people in direct relationships can act as relatives or patrons. But this only applies to life situations, and has nothing to do with transcendental influence.
The oppressed among men, women, and children say, “Our Lord, take us out of this city, which holders are obscurantists! Appoint for us from Yourself a patron and appoint for us from Yourself a helper!” (4:75)
Your patron is none but God and His messenger and those who have believed – those who establish prayer and give purifying expenditure, and they kneel. (5:55)
And God presents an example of two men, one of them dumb and unable to do a thing, while he is a burden to his patron. Wherever he directs him, he brings no good. Is he equal to one who commands justice, while he is on a straight path? (16:76)
And do not kill the personality which God has forbidden, except by right. And whoever is killed unjustly – We have given his heir the authority, but let him not exceed limits in taking the life. Indeed, he has been helped! (17:33)
They said, “Take a mutual oath by God that we will kill him by night, he and his family. Then we will say to his patron, ‘We did not witness the destruction of his family. Indeed, we are truthful.'” (27:49)
If they both repent to God, He will listen to the hearts of both. But if they pretend before him – then indeed God is his patron, and Gabriel and the righteous of the believers and the maintainers, are his helpers! (66:4)
The illegitimacy of human regalia and statuses before the Scriptures of God is vividly illustrated by the following verse:
Follow what has been revealed to you from your Lord and do not follow other than Him any patron. Little do you remember! (7:3)
The very nature of patronage and closeness requires conformity to these manifestations. The main match is true faith in the Creator.
God is the patron of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the light. And those who closed themselves – they are adherents of transgression. They take them out of the light into darknesses. Those are the companions of the fire and they will abide therein. (2:257)
Indeed, the intimates of Abraham are those who followed him and this prophet, and those who believe. And God is the patron of the believers! (3:68)
When two parties among you were about to lose courage, but God is their patron! (3:122)
And God is most knowing of your enemies. Sufficient is God as a patron, and sufficient is God as a helper! (4:45)
Say, “Is it other than God I should take as a patron, Creator of the heavens and the earth? While it is He who feeds and is not fed!”
Say, “Indeed, I have been commanded to be the first who humble himself and not ever be of the one who ascribe partners to God!’ “(6:14)
And warn by the Quran those who fear that they will be gathered before their Lord! For them besides Him will be no patron and no intercessor – that they might beware! (6:51)
For them will be the home of peace with their Lord. And He will be their patron because of what they used to do. (6:127)
Indeed, they will never avail you against God at all. And indeed, the obscurantists are patrons of one another, but God is the Patron of the circumspect! (45:19)
That is because God is the patron of those who have believed and because the closed ones have no patron! (47:11)
God has already ordained for you the dissolution of your oaths. And God is your Patron! He is the Knowing, the Wise. (66:2)
The only condition for the patronage of the Creator is a steady adherence to His prescriptions, the violation of which leads to the deprivation of God’s closeness.
And never will the jews or the christians approve of you until you follow their commune. Say, “Indeed, the guidance of God is the Guidance.” If you were to follow their passions after what has come to you of knowledge, you would have against God no patron or helper. (2:120)
It is neither your desires nor the desires of the holders of the Prescription.
Whoever does a wrong will be recompensed for it, and he will find besides God neither a patron nor a helper! (4:123)
And thus We have revealed it as a judgment in an Arabic language. And if you should follow their passions after what has come to you of knowledge, you would not have against God any helper or any guardian! (13:37)
Prophets clearly understood such a rule. Knowing the weakness of people, and their own one, the messengers with believers turned directly to the Almighty.
And Moses chose from his people seventy men for Our appointment.
And when the earthquake seized them, he said, “My Lord, if You had willed, You could have destroyed them before and me. Would You destroy us for what the foolish among us have done? This is not but Your temptation by which You send astray whom You will and guide whom You will. You are our Patron! So forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the Best of forgivers! (7:155)
Indeed, my patron is God, who has sent down the Prescription! He is a patron for the ones who correct themselves! (7:196)
My Lord, You have given me kingship and taught me of the interpretation of the events, Creator of the heavens and earth! You are my patron in this world and in the hereafter! Cause me to die as a humble before You and save me with the corrected ones!” (12:101)
The coming of truth to people leads to a split of them into two opposing camps. Collision determines the line of conduct of opponents, which rules are also described in the Quran.
Let not believers take the closed ones as patrons rather than believers. And whoever does that has nothing with God, except when taking precaution against them in fear. And God warns you of Himself! And to God is the exodus! (3:28)
Those who believe fight in the way of God, and those who closed themselves fight in the way of transgression. So fight against the patrons of disobedient. Indeed, the intrigues of disobedient are weak! (4:76)
They wish you would close yourself as they closed themselves so you would be alike. So do not take from among them patrons until they emigrate for the way of God. But if they turn away, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them, except for those who are related to people with whom you made a covenant or those who come to you restraining from fighting you or fighting their own people. Take not from among them any patron or helper! (4:89)
Give tidings to the venal ones that there is for them a painful punishment – those who take closed ones as patrons instead of the believers! Do they seek with them honour? But indeed, honour belongs to God entirely! (4:138-139)
O you who have believed! Do not take the jews and the christians as patrons. They are patrons of one another. And whoever takes them as patrons, he is one of them. Indeed, God guides not the obscurant people! (5:51)
O you who have believed! Take not those who have taken your duty in ridicule and amusement among neither the ones who were given the Prescription before you nor the closed ones as patrons. Beware of God, if you are believers! (5:57)
And if they had believed God and the prophet and in what was revealed to him, they would not have taken them as patrons, but many of them are apostates! (5:81)
And do not eat of that upon which the name of God has not been mentioned! Indeed, it is an apostasy! Indeed, the disobedient ones inspire to the ones they patron to dispute with you! And if you were to obey them, indeed, you would be the associators of partners to God! (6:121)
O you who have believed! Do not take your fathers or your brothers as patrons if they have preferred closed nature over faith. And whoever does so among you – then it is those who are the obscurantists. (9:23)
And do not rely on the obscurantists lest you be touched by the fire! You would not have other than God any patrons! Then you would not be helped! (11:113)
O you who have believed! Do not take My enemies and your enemies as patrons! Extending to them affection while they have closed themselves in what came to you of the truth. They expel the prophet and you because you believe God, your Lord.
If you have come out for striving in My way and seeking means to My approval, confiding affection to them, but I am most knowing of what you have concealed and what you have declared. And whoever does it among you has certainly strayed from the straight way. (60:1)
In order to match with the patronage of the Creator, believer must have certain qualities. These qualities should manifest themselves in practice, because a simple declaration does not say anything.
But why should God not punish them?! While they obstruct from the forbidden for battles place for earthly worship and they are not its patrons? Its patrons are not but the circumspect, but most of them do not know! (8:34)
Indeed, those who have believed and emigrated and fought with their wealth and lives in the way of God and those who gave shelter and aided – they are patrons of one another!… (8:72)
The believing men and believing women are patrons of one another. They command the approved, detain from the hated and establish prayer and give purifying expenditure and obey God and His Messenger. Those – God will have mercy upon them. Indeed, Godis Exalted in Might and Wise! (9:71)
It’s no secret that the obscurantists were always present and were in the vanguard of resisting the Divine Light. However, their efforts are doomed to failure, and the actions are fruitless.
And as for those who believed and corrected themselves, He will give them in full their rewards and grant them extra from His bounty.
But as for those who disdained and were arrogant, He will punish them with a painful punishment. They will not find for themselves besides God any patron or helper! (4:173)
And leave those who take their duty as amusement and diversion! Whom the worldly life has deluded! But remind with it, lest a personality is doomed to the outcome for what it earned. It will have other than God no patron and no guardian! And if it should offer full compensation, it would not be taken from it! Those are the ones who are doomed to the outcome for what they have earned! For them will be a drink of scalding water and a painful punishment because they used to close themselves! (6:70)
Those cannot cause impossible on earth. They have no patron besides God! For them the punishment will be multiplied! They are not able to hear, nor do they see! (11:20)
And whoever God guides – he is the guided. And whoever He sends astray – you will never find for them patron besides Him!
We will gather them on the day of standing before God upon their faces, blind, dumb and deaf. Their refuge is Hell. Every time it subsides We increase them in blazing fire! (17:97)
They will say, “Exalted are You! It was not for us to take besides You any patrons! But You provided comforts for them and their fathers until they forgot the message and became a nation ruined!” (25:18)
And he whom God sends astray – for him there is no patron beyond Him!
And you will see the obscurantists, when they see the punishment, saying, “Is there any way to return?” (42:44)
And whoever God sends astray – for him there is no patron! (42:46)
But he who does not respond to the caller of God will not be out of reach on the earth! And he will not have besides Him any patrons! Those are in manifest error!” (46:32)
What dictated such behaviour of the obscurantist? After all, they also need the patronage of God. The answer is simple, they simultaneously hope for the closeness of the higher powers, along with the Creator.
Ask, “Who is Lord of the heavens and earth?”
Reply, “God .”
Ask, “Have you then taken besides Him patrons not possessing for themselves any benefit or any harm!?”
Ask, “Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Or is darkness equivalent to light?
Or have they attributed to God partners who created like His creation so that the creation seemed similar to them?”
Say, “God is the Creator of all things! And He is the One, the Prevailing!” (13:16)
And when We said to the maintainers, “Prostrate to Adam!” and they prostrated, except for the disappointed (iblees). He was of the unseen and departed by the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as patrons other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the obscurantists as an exchange! (18:50)
Then do those who closed themselves think that they can take My servants instead of Me as patrons? Indeed, We have prepared Hell for the closed ones as a lodging. (18:102)
The example of those who take patrons other than God is like that of the spider who takes a home. And indeed, the weakest of homes is the home of the spider, if they only knew. (29:41)
Unquestionably, for God is the sincere obligation!
And those who take patrons besides Him, say, “We only worship them that they may bring us nearer to God in position.” Indeed, God will judge between them concerning that over which they differ. Indeed, God does not guide he who is a liar and closed himself. (39:3)
And those who take as patrons other than Him – God is Guardian over them, and you are not over them a surety. (42:6)
Or have they taken patrons besides him? But God- He is the Patron! And He gives life to the dead! And He is over all things competent! (42:9)
Before them is Hell! And what they had earned will not avail them at all nor what they had taken besides God as patrons. And they will have a great punishment! (45:10)
If those who rejected the signs of the Creator would accept the Scripture, they would find their mistake and make sure that there are no other real patrons except the Lord.
They swear by God that they did not say, while they had said the word of closed nature. They closed themselves after their humility. They were aware of that which they were not to attain. And they revenge when God and His Messenger do not enrich them of His bounty. So if they repent, it is better for them; but if they turn away, God will punish them with a painful punishment in this world and the hereafter. And there will not be for them on earth any patron or helper! (9:74)
You would see the sun when it rose, inclining away from their cave on the right, and when it set, passing away from them on the left, while they were in a space between thereof. That was from the signs of God. He whom God guides is the guided, but he whom He leaves astray – never will you find for him neither patron, nor prudent. (18:17)
And if those who closed themselves had fought you, they would have turned their backs. Then they would not find a patron or a guardian. (48:22)
Reading the Quran, an attentive person can easily find “ideologists” of resistance to the divine truth – these are the disobedient to the Lord led by Iblis.
That is the disobedient who frightens by the ones who under his patronage. So fear them not, but fear Me, if you are believers! (3:175)
God has cursed him.
He said, “I will surely take from among Your servants a specific portion. And I will mislead them, and I will arouse in them desires. I will command them so they will slit the ears of cattle. I will command them so they will change the creation of God!”
And whoever takes the disobedient as a patron instead of God has certainly sustained a clear loss! (4:118-119)
O children of Adam! Let not the disobedient tempt you as he removed your parents from the garden, stripping them of their clothing of circumspectness to show them their misdeed. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the disobedient ones patrons to those who do not believe! (7:27)
A group is guided, and a group is in true error. Indeed, they had taken the disobedient as patrons instead of God while they thought that they were guided! (7:30)
Swear to God, We did certainly send to leaders before you, but the disobedient beautified their deeds to them. And he is their patron at that day and they will have a painful punishment! (16:63)
O my father! Indeed I fear that there will touch you a punishment from the Gracious so you would be under patronage of the disobedient! (19:45)
He invokes one whose harm is closer than his benefit. How wretched the patron! How wretched such companion! (22:13)
The cornerstone in understanding the message of the Supreme is information about the final calculation for the deeds done.
Then they are returned to God, their true patron! Unquestionably, His owns the judgement! And He is the swiftest of accountants! (6:62)
There, every personality will be put to trial for what it did previously. They will be returned to God, their true Parton! And will not be lost is whatever they used to invent! (10:30)
There the true patronage belongs to God! He is best in reward and best in outcome! (18:44)
This event is called the Judgment Day, in which all the results of life activity will be summed up. And according to these results, the fate of those who did not follow God’s Scriptures and who was not guided by it is very sad.
At that day, He will gather them together and say, “O company of unseen! You have achieved a lot from mankind!”
And the ones they patronage among mankind will say, “Our Lord! Some of us made use of others. We have reached our term, which you appointed for us!”
He will say, “Fire is your residence! Wherein you will abide, except for what God wills!” Indeed, your Lord is Wise and Knowing. (6:128)
So today no ransom will be taken from you or from those who closed themselves! Your refuge is the fire! It is most worthy of you, and wretched is the exodus! (57:15)
On the contrary, eternal happiness and worthy companions are promised to the executors of the prescriptions of the Creator and followers of His guidance.
We are your patrons in worldly life and in the hereafter! And you will have therein whatever you desire for yourselves! (41:31)
