The Quran about truth and weight
In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful
The meaning of human life is not simple existence on earth, but service to God.
O mankind! Serve your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become circumspect. (2:21)
And I did not create the invisible creatures and mankind except to serve Me! (51:56)
And as a result of this service, people have a hope to win a reward. But it will be decided by God on the Day of Debt, where humanity will be distributed, either to Paradise or to Hell. On what will the decision of Almighty be based? This information can be found in the Quran.
And the weighing that day will be the truth. So those whose scales are heavy – it is they who will be the successful. And those whose scales are light – they are the ones who will lose themselves for obscurantism toward Our signs! (7:8-9)
In this passage, the word “yazlyamuna” is used, which root is the word “zalyamun“, which means “darkness, obscurity“. That is, the word “yazlyamuna” denotes such people who, while in spiritual “darkness“, abandon the divine Light of the signs, resist it, preferring to remain in their “dark” state. Such a state successfully reflects the word “obscurantism“.
Obscurantism (reactionary) is an extremely hostile attitude toward enlightenment and science, progress in general. The central place in obscurantism is the protection of dogmas.
It was in this way that people who did not want to accept the truth treated the divine Prescription. The above-mentioned state is perfectly described by God in the Quran.
Their example is that of one who kindled a fire, but when it illuminated what was around him, God took away their light and left them in darkness, they could not see. Deaf, dumb and blind – so they will not return.
Or like a rainstorm from the sky within which is darkness, thunder and lightning. They put their fingers in their ears against the thunderclaps in dread of death. But God is encompassing of those who closed themselves. The lightning almost snatches away their sight. Every time it lights for them, they walk therein; but when darkness comes over them, they stand still. And if God had willed, He could have taken away their hearing and their sight. Indeed, God is over all things competent! (2:17-20)
Naturally, every person strives for success. In order to achieve such a state on the Day of Debt, judging by the passage, the “mass” of the person on the scales must outweigh the opposite side. But we first need to understand what will be the yardstick on the Day of Debt and what gives preponderance in favour of man?
It is God who has sent down the Prescription in truth and the balance. And what will make you perceive? Perhaps the hour is near! (42:17)
It immediately catches the eye that the very Precept of God is both the balance and the truth giving weight. It turns out that on the Day of the standing before the Lord, the deeds of man will be considered in relation to the divine book. And the more a person is saturated with the Spirit of Prescription, the more he has the chances to succeed, because the ease of scales on the Day of Debt are given exactly by the obscurant attitude toward the signs of the Most High.
…And whoever does not judge by what God has revealed – then it is those who closed themselves. (5:44)
Everyone is obliged to build a system of values according to the Prescription of God, making decisions in accordance with it. The book of the Almighty should be desk book for people, so that, based on the divine wisdom of His signs, in any situation it would be easy to navigate. Only in such a case, one can hope for the mercy of God.
And this is a Prescription We have revealed blessed, so follow it, being circumspect, that you may receive mercy! (6:155)
Verily, the mercy of the Most High is very important to us. After all, among people there is not a single person who does not make mistakes and does not sin. And only by the grace of God we can get into the Garden of Eden.
They will not taste death therein except the first death, and He will have protected them from the punishment of hellfire as bounty from your Lord. That is what is the great attainment! (44:56-57)
